Toluca · Tulum

    Toluca
    to Tulum.

Straight into Tulum's airport, not Cancún's. Two hours ten in the air and a twenty-minute drive to town, instead of the two hours of federal highway that landing at MMUN imposes.

    Why Private

    What makes this route different.

    01
Two hours of driving you skip

Landing at MMTL instead of Cancún removes the run down Federal Highway 307. Aircraft to town is 20 to 30 minutes.

    02
No category restriction on the runway

12,140 feet of concrete at sea level: any business jet operates in and out at full payload.

    03
    Customs and immigration on site

MMTL clears international flights with no prior stop at another Mexican field.

    04
Cancún stays available as the alternate

If your schedule falls outside Tulum's daytime handling window, we quote through MMUN and arrange the ground leg.

    Cost

What determines the cost of a Toluca → Tulum charter?

Tulum is a short-stay, small-group destination: most requests are three or four nights with four to eight passengers. That structure favours the round trip, because the aircraft stays with you and there's no second repositioning to pay for.

    01
    Aircraft category

The single biggest driver. The right categories for this leg are light and midsize jets: the gap between them isn't only cabin size but speed, baggage volume and range. A light and a midsize jet on the same route can differ by 60% in price.

    02
    Distance and block time

The leg runs ≈ 1,260 km with a typical 2h 10m in the air. Charter is priced on occupied flight hours, and daily utilization minimums plus crew duty limits still apply even on a short hop.

    03
    One way vs round trip

A round trip that keeps the aircraft with you usually prices better per hour than two one-ways. A one-way Toluca → Tulum may mean the aircraft flies home empty, and that leg shows up in the rate.

    04
    Positioning (ferry)

The movement of the aircraft before pickup or after drop-off. If the right aircraft isn't based in Toluca, or is committed elsewhere after landing in Tulum, that repositioning enters the cost. It's exactly why empty legs exist: someone already paid for that leg.

    05
    Season and demand

Availability rules price. Through November through Easter week and on long weekends the fleet commits weeks ahead and the rate stops being negotiable. Firm dates booked early widen your aircraft options.

    06
    Handling, FBO and fees

Landing, ramp, FBO handling, catering and crew overnight where applicable. Small next to the flight hour, but they vary by airport and are always itemized in the quote — nothing appears afterward.

Why MMTL changed the trip to the Riviera Maya

Before December 2023, a private flight to Tulum ended in Cancún. From there came 90 to 120 minutes down Federal Highway 307, a stretch with seasonal traffic and speed bumps that turned a two-hour flight into half a day.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto International (MMTL) opened twelve miles from town with a 12,140-foot concrete runway and its own executive aviation terminal. For a group leaving on a Friday afternoon, the difference between arriving for dinner and arriving for bed is exactly that stretch of road.

The handling window: the detail to plan around

MMTL is not a 24-hour airport. It is run by a military-owned group and executive aviation handling works a daytime window, roughly 07:00 to 19:00 local, with its own customs procedures.

In practice that means itineraries are built inside that window and with margin: international clearance takes 35 to 50 minutes, domestic 20 to 30. If your times don't fit, Cancún (MMUN) runs 24 hours and remains the right departure — we tell you before quoting, not after you book.

From the aircraft to your hotel

Airport to Tulum town is 20 to 30 minutes. To the coastal hotel zone along the Boca Paila corridor, allow 35 to 50 depending on the point and the hour. Akumal sits around 45 minutes out and Playa del Carmen a little over an hour.

If you're headed to Bacalar or southern Quintana Roo, the advantage grows: roughly two hours from MMTL against four from Cancún. We arrange the ground transfer as part of the service.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

How much is a private jet from Mexico City to Tulum?
A one-way light jet (Learjet 35, up to 8 passengers) starts around USD 11,800 + VAT; a Hawker 800A runs closer to USD 19,800 + VAT. Estimates subject to date and availability; we return a firm quote in 30 minutes.
How long is the Mexico City to Tulum flight?
2 hours 10 minutes nonstop from Toluca (MMTO). Against a commercial itinerary into Cancún plus the road transfer, door-to-door savings usually exceed three hours.
Do flights leave from Mexico City airport or Toluca?
From Toluca (MMTO). Mexico City International keeps slot restrictions that in practice shut out on-demand private charter, so all business aviation for the metro area operates out of MMTO.
Is it better to fly into Tulum or Cancún?
If you're staying in Tulum, Bacalar or southern Quintana Roo, MMTL saves 90 to 120 minutes of driving. If your flight falls outside Tulum's daytime handling window, or you're staying toward Playa del Carmen and Cancún, MMUN works better because it runs 24 hours.
