    Why Private

    What makes this route different.

    01
You leave from Tulum, not Cancún

Twenty minutes from town to the executive terminal, instead of two hours of highway to MMUN.

    02
Landing at Toluca, not Mexico City International

MMTO runs 24 hours and sits 35–45 minutes from Santa Fe, 40–50 from Interlomas.

    03
One last full day on the beach

Inside MMTL's daytime window you can leave in the afternoon and have dinner at home.

    04
A corridor with frequent empty legs

Mexico City to Caribbean traffic generates constant return repositioning. With flexible dates, the discount is real.

    Cost

What determines the cost of a Tulum → Toluca charter?

Direction matters. Caribbean to the centre is the way most aircraft fly home, so it's also where empty leg opportunities show up. A one-way in this direction can price below the same leg going the other way.

    01
    Aircraft category

The single biggest driver. The right categories for this leg are light and midsize jets: the gap between them isn't only cabin size but speed, baggage volume and range. A light and a midsize jet on the same route can differ by 60% in price.

    02
    Distance and block time

The leg runs ≈ 1,260 km with a typical 2h 10m in the air. Charter is priced on occupied flight hours, and daily utilization minimums plus crew duty limits still apply even on a short hop.

    03
    One way vs round trip

A round trip that keeps the aircraft with you usually prices better per hour than two one-ways. A one-way Tulum → Toluca may mean the aircraft flies home empty, and that leg shows up in the rate.

    04
    Positioning (ferry)

The movement of the aircraft before pickup or after drop-off. If the right aircraft isn't based in Tulum, or is committed elsewhere after landing in Toluca, that repositioning enters the cost. It's exactly why empty legs exist: someone already paid for that leg.

    05
    Season and demand

Availability rules price. Through November through Easter week the fleet commits weeks ahead and the rate stops being negotiable. Firm dates booked early widen your aircraft options.

    06
    Handling, FBO and fees

Landing, ramp, FBO handling, catering and crew overnight where applicable. Small next to the flight hour, but they vary by airport and are always itemized in the quote — nothing appears afterward.

Leaving from Tulum instead of driving to Cancún

The return is where having your own airport shows most. Departing from MMTL is 20 to 30 minutes from town to the executive terminal; departing from Cancún means getting up three hours earlier to absorb Highway 307 with Sunday traffic.

Clearance at the executive terminal takes 20 to 30 minutes on a domestic flight. You arrive, luggage is loaded on the ramp, you board.

The daytime window drives the itinerary

Executive aviation handling at MMTL works roughly 07:00 to 19:00 local. A night departure from Tulum isn't an option: either you leave in the afternoon, or you leave from Cancún, which does run 24 hours.

We put that on the table at quoting stage so nobody discovers the restriction on flight day. In practice, leaving Tulum between four and six in the afternoon lands you in Toluca at a perfectly reasonable hour, with the hour you gain flying back to central Mexico.

    Arriving in Toluca

The flight lands at Toluca, where business aviation for the Mexico City metro area operates: Mexico City International keeps slot restrictions that shut out on-demand charter.

FBO to Santa Fe is 35 to 45 minutes, to Interlomas 40 to 50 and to Polanco around an hour. MMTO runs 24 hours, so arrival time imposes no restriction from that side.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Can you fly from Tulum to Mexico City by private jet?
Yes, direct from Felipe Carrillo Puerto International (MMTL) to Toluca (MMTO) in 2 hours 10 minutes, without routing through Cancún.
What time can you depart from Tulum?
Inside the executive aviation handling window, roughly 07:00 to 19:00 local. For night departures we quote from Cancún (MMUN), which runs 24 hours.
Are there empty legs in this direction?
It's one of the directions where they appear most, because private traffic to the Caribbean concentrates on specific dates and aircraft have to fly home. With one or two days of flexibility, discounts run 40 to 75 per cent off the regular rate.
Where does the flight land in Mexico City?
At Toluca (MMTO), the base for business aviation in the Mexico City metro area. It runs 24 hours and sits 35–45 minutes from Santa Fe on the Mexico–Toluca motorway.
