Guadalajara: business midweek, coast on weekends
Private flying in Guadalajara has two very different faces. Monday through Thursday, corporate travel dominates — technology, manufacturing, agribusiness and tequila — with routes to Mexico City, Monterrey and the Bajío, almost always same-day round trips.
Friday through Sunday the pattern flips entirely toward the coast and leisure: Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita, Los Cabos and Cancún, with family groups and larger cabins. That weekly split is why availability in Guadalajara swings so much by day of week.
MMGL and the Bajío fields
Guadalajara (MMGL) is the main field: 24-hour operation, customs and immigration, any aircraft category. It's the required departure point for international flights in the region.
For clients in the Bajío industrial corridor, Del Bajío (MMLO, León) and Aguascalientes (MMAS) are often better departure points than driving to Guadalajara. Both have customs and executive handling. When the ground transfer runs over two hours, repositioning the aircraft to the closer field almost always makes sense.
The coastal connection: Vallarta and Punta Mita
Puerto Vallarta is 45 minutes of flying time from Guadalajara — short enough that many clients handle it in a turboprop, or by helicopter depending on the season. Punta Mita and the Riviera Nayarit are served from MMPR with a 40 to 50 minute ground transfer.
In high season — December through April and long weekends — demand on this leg concentrates into very narrow Friday-afternoon and Sunday-afternoon windows. Booking ahead in those windows changes your aircraft options substantially.
