The transverse route commercial handles badly
Cancún and Guadalajara are connected, but nonstop supply is thin and many itineraries route through Mexico City. A two-and-a-half hour flight becomes a six or seven hour day with a connection, a wait and a second boarding.
Private, the leg is direct, the schedule is free and departure is from a private ramp. For families closing out a Caribbean holiday and heading back west, it's the difference between arriving for lunch and arriving at dawn.
Guadalajara or the Bajío fields
Guadalajara (MMGL) is western Mexico's main field: 24-hour operation, customs and immigration, and it takes any aircraft category.
But if your final destination is in the Bajío corridor, landing at León (MMLO) or Aguascalientes (MMAS) can save two to three hours of driving with minimal impact on the flight. Both have executive handling. We compare the options before locking the arrival field.
Light or midsize at two and a half hours
On short legs the difference between a light and a midsize jet is mostly comfort. At two and a half hours it starts to be schedule too: the cruise speed gap translates into fifteen or twenty minutes, and a stand-up cabin stops being a luxury as the flight stretches.
With six passengers and a week's luggage, the Learjet 35 closes well. With eight passengers and full holiday bags, the Hawker 800A is usually the right call even at a higher price.
