The west to the Caribbean, skipping the centre
Guadalajara and Cancún have commercial service, but nonstop supply sits in a handful of times and much of the itinerary base routes through Mexico City. With a connection, a wait and a second boarding, a two-and-a-half hour flight easily becomes six.
Private, the leg is direct and the schedule is yours. For families travelling with children, that difference completely changes the first and last day of the holiday.
Cancún, Tulum or Cozumel: where to land
From MMUN it's 20 minutes to the Hotel Zone and Puerto Cancún, and about 45 to Playa del Carmen. But Tulum is roughly a 90-minute drive.
If you're headed to Tulum or Bacalar, landing at MMTL cuts that to 20 minutes and the fare is often identical. For Cozumel, MMCZ skips the ferry from Playa del Carmen. We pick the field around where you're staying, not out of habit.
High season and lead time that actually helps
From December through Easter week, aircraft availability toward Cancún sells out weeks ahead, and over Christmas, New Year and the Semana Santa long weekend prices respond directly to demand.
For those dates it's worth confirming three to four weeks out. Closer in, options narrow to whatever is free and the rate stops being negotiable. Booking the outbound and leaving the return open is a good middle ground when the schedule isn't firm.
